Mary Edoyugbo: INCOMPLETE READINESS, 3.5 x 5 ft, ACRYLIC ON CANVAS, 2020
…she knew she would never be ready completely; no one is actually.
Always promised that things would get better if only she wrote the right things, said the right words, did the right things, waited for the right time, met the right person.
She was ready to tear down the walls, move the mountains. She knew within that she was enough.
And when the morning came, she arose unprepared and yet prepared. She was incompletely ready. The awakening and awareness had dawned on her that no one ever was ready completely. She was prepared to take on her journey; a journey for more.
She chose not to implode or explode.
She chose the steel defiance.
She embraced her being insufficiently set for a better life.
