PAINTER Mary Edoyugbo

Jude believes that a lot happens within a single stroke of colour

Mary Edoyugbo is presently based in Port Harcourt. Though art comes naturally to me, I studied it professionally at the University of Benin, Edo State and graduated in 2012. My preferred method of creating art is pointillism, but I also express it through painting.

The art of creating images with dots is my practice and it is known as Pointillism.

It is my perception that the technique does not only rely on the eye and mind of the viewer to blend the dots into a fuller range of tones, but to also draw one’s attention to the significance of these dots. Dots that can so easily be disregarded in our lives; be it one’s experiences, emotions, strengths, weaknesses and practically every factor that has sculpted that person’s being and present reality.

In chemistry, they are referred to as atoms; in photography as pixels; to me, the artist, dots!

My way of representing images makes me more conscious to appreciate every minuscule of effort, moment and second of the day, because they are all dots to me, and in my world, every dot counts.
